About Toms River North Theatre

Our Theatre Program

Toms River High School North is home to the school district's Theatre Academy, a conservatory-style theatre intensive program in a public high school, offering the quintessential high school experience paired with a rigorous theatre program. The Nautical Stars Theatre Company is the performance branch High School North's theatre program, debuting two professional-level productions each year. We are also home to NJ Thespians Troupe #7455, a theatre honor society.

At Toms River North, our students have leadership roles that allow them to effect everyday change within our theatre program and give them valuable real-world experience in team leadership and cooperation.

Logan.HEIC

President, Nautical Stars Theatre Company

LOGAN MASTERSON

Logan is a senior at TRHSN and is a part of the Theatre Academy. Logan has performed on the TRHSN stage many times, most recently in the roles of Sir Andrew in Twelfth Night, Lank Hawkins in Crazy for You, and a performer in both How To Eat Like a Child and the 2025 Academy Showcase. Logan is also a member of Thespian Troupe #7455, and a STO Co-Vice-Chair for NJ Thespians. Outside of theatre, Logan is a member of National English Honor Society, President of National Honor Society, a member of TRHSN’s new “First Mates”, a volunteer poll worker, a member of Ocean County Young Democrats, a volunteer for Team Mikie Sherrill, and is President of the Toms River Antlers Lodge, a local charity organization.

DARLENE PENN

Darlene is a Senior at TRHSN. She is a part of the Theatre Academy. Darlene has been a part of thirteen North productions including Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief (The Oracle), Mamma Mia (Rosie), Crazy For You (Patricia) and All in the Timing (Director). Darlene is also a member of Thespian Troupe #7455. Outside of theatre, Darlene is on the Executive Board for National English Honor Society as President and in the school’s Rock Band.

GAGE ALBURGER

Gage Alburger is a Senior at TRN. He has been part of the Nautical Stars Theatre Company since his freshman year and a member of the Theatre Academy since his sophomore year. He was a member of the ensemble for 2023’s The Lightning Thief and 2024’s Mamma Mia!. He was also in Twelfth Night (Second Officer), Crazy For You (Sam), and All in The Timing (Bill, “Sure Thing”). He is also a Marching Mariner in North’s band and is a featured performer on lead trumpet/flugelhorn in this 2025’s production “Becoming the Tin Man”. Beyond the arts, Gage is co-president of North’s politics club and does additional political work/volunteering out of school.

DAMIEN JONES-WOLLERTON

Damien is a junior at Toms River High School North, where he is a part of the Theatre Academy and a proud member of Thespian Troupe #7455, where he serves as a festival ambassador for this year’s NJ Thespian Festival. Damien has served many different jobs on various productions, including: Our Town (Backstage/Build and Paint Crew), Mamma Mia (Backstage/Build and Paint Crew), Twelfth Night (Curio), (Crazy For You! (Harry/Eugene Fodor), All in the Timing (Mark), Xtreme Theatre 2025 (Writer) and much more! Damien is also an active member of the TRN Chess Club and plays for the Varsity Chess Team. In addition to this, Damien is a member of the National English Honor Society, a member of TRN’s concert band and serves as the secretary for the school’s Politics Club.

BRYNN MCKEE

Brynn McKee is a Junior at TRHSN. She is a part of the Theatre and Dance Academy. Brynn has appeared on the TRHSN stage in 6 shows including Crazy for You (Mitzi), Twelfth Night (Maid),Mamma Mia (Ensemble), How to Eat Like a Child (Ensemble), Xtreme Theatre 2024, and Academy showcase 2025. She was also the Dance Captain for the musical this year. She is a member of Troupe #7455. She is also in the Cast and Dance Captain for NJ All-State Thespian Show this year “A Chorus Line”. Outside of school she is a dancer at Eastside Dance Company. She also has been a member of the AYE program with Algonquin Arts Theatre and has performed in The Wizard of Oz (Tree/Featured Dancer), Footloose (Dance Ensemble), and Joseph…Dreamcoat (Childrens Chorus).

BETANIA ESPARZA

Betania Esparza is a Junior at TRN and a student in the digital arts Academy. She has been a part of Nine North productions: Our Town (backstage),  The Lightning Thief (ensemble), Xtreme Theatre 2022 , Xtreme Theatre 2024, Xtreme Theatre 2025, Mamma Mia (assistant prop manager), twelfth Night (Tech assistant apprentice), All in the timing (backstage), and Theatre Academy Showcase 2025. She is also the Technical Assistant for the 2025-26 Nautical Stars productions. Additionally, she is also a member of Thespian Troupe #7455.

RILEY POLL

Riley is a senior at TRHSN. She is a member of the Digital Arts Academy. Riley has worked as Prop assistant (The Lightning Thief), Backstage Crew (Our Town) ,Assistant Stage Manager (Mamma Mia!), Stage Manager  (Twelfth Night) , Stage Manager (All in the Timing), Stage manager (Crazy For You), Stage Manager (How to Eat Like A Child) and participated in Extreme Theatre 23’,24’,25’ as a crew member. She is participating in the New Jersey All State Show (A Chorus Line) as a tech crew member.  She has also worked on Backstage Crew for Exit 82 Theatre Company and Shore Talent Productions.  Riley is also a member of Thespian Troupe #7455 and serves as a festival ambassador.

BRIANNA FREDELLA

Brianna is a senior at TRHSN, and a 4 year member of the Theatre Academy. At TRHSN, Brianna has performed on the TRHSN stage 13 times, including The Crucible (Ann Putnam), Crazy For You (Betsy), All in the Timing (Mrs. Trotsky), The Lightning Thief (Ensemble), Our Town (Ensemble), Mamma Mia! (Ensemble), Twelfth Night (Backstage crew), Schoolhouse Rock (Ensemble), How to Eat Like A Child (Ensemble), Extreme Theatre ‘24 (Gretel), Extreme Theatre ‘25 (Patti), and the Theatre Academy Showcase (‘24 and ‘25). Brianna is also a member of Thespian Troupe #7455, serving as the recruitment chair! Outside of theatre, Brianna is a member of Toms River North Marching Mariner’s Colorguard. She also does volunteer work at OCC’s Head Start Preschool Program as an assistant teacher!

ZACHARY MENTH

Zachary Menth  is a senior at Toms River High School North and is proud to represent Troupe #7455 as its President and as a NJ State Thespian Officer! His most recent credits include Twelfth Night (Sir Toby Belch), Crazy For You (Bela Zangler), Mamma Mia! (Harry Bright), Spring Awakening (Otto Lammermeier), and he will be seen in the upcoming All-State performance: A Chorus Line (Al DeLuca). He is very grateful for this opportunity and excited for a great year to come!!

CHRISTOPHER GIOXARIS

Christopher Gioxaris is a Senior at Toms River Highschool North and a Theatre Academy student. He is a State Thespian officer and Vice President for Troupe #7455. Christopher has been in 10 productions at TRHSN, some of his recent productions include Twelfth Night (Duke Orsino), Crazy For You (Billy,Wyatt, Perkins), Mamma Mia! (Pepper). He is also in the New Jersey All State Show “A Chorus Line”  as (Mark Anothy). He is very excited to be apart of the Eboard for his second year and cannot wait for this year!

LILLYANNE SMITH

Lillyanne Smith is a Senior at TRHSN. This is her fourth year as a part of the theater company. At TRHSN, Lillyanne has been a part of Costume Crew (The Lightning Thief) as well as Student Assistant of Costume Crew in productions of Our Town, Mamma Mia, Twelfth Night, All in the Timing, and Crazy for You. Lillyanne is also a part of Thespian Troupe #7455. Outside of school, Lillyanne is involved in T.E.A.M, National Art Honors Society, and National Honors Society.

SOFIA PELLEGRINO

Sofia Pellegrino is a senior at TRHSN. She is a part of the Theatre Academy. At TRHSN, Sofia has performed on the TRHSN stage 10 times, in the roles of Sam Craig (Our Town), Sophie Sheridan (Mamma Mia!), Feste the Fool (Twelfth Night), Dawn (All in the Timing), Irene Roth (Crazy For You), Ensemble (School House Rock) Ensemble (How to Eat like a Child),  Xtreme Theatre (24’ and 25’) and the 2025 Theatre Academy Showcase. Sofia is also a member of Thespian Troupe #7455. Outside of theatre, Sofia is also the secretary of Thespian Troupe #7455 and a member and the secretary of National Honor Society. Sofia is also a member of the new school ambassadors called the ‘First Mates’.

WILLIAM CORDARO

Will Cordaro is a Senior at TRHSN. At TRHSN, Will has worked on the build and paint and backstage crew for Lightning Thief, Our Town, Mamma Mia, Twelfth Night, Crazy for You, and has even been an assistant stage manager. Will is also a member of Thespian Troupe #7455. He is very grateful for this opportunity and excited to work with everyone and have a great year!

LIA WARREN

Lia Warren is a junior at TRHSN. She is part of the Theatre Academy. At TRHSN, Lia has performed on the TRHSN stage 9 times, in the roles of ensemble (Our Town), ensemble (Mamma Mia), ensemble (Schoolhouse Rock), Woman 2 (All in The Timing), Follie Girl (Crazy For You), ensemble (How to Eat Like a Child), Theatre Academy Showcase 24’ and 25’, and Xtreme Theatre 24’. Lia was also in the Hair and Makeup Crew for the production of Twelfth Night. Additionally, she also played the role of Moana in Moana Jr. at TRIN. Lia is also a member of Thespian Troupe #7455. Outside of theatre, Lia is the Vice President of National English Honor Society and a member of the field hockey team.

AMBER MCDANIEL

Amber McDaniel is a Junior at TRHSN, student in the Theatre Academy, and a Thespian of troupe #7455 as well as a Festival Ambassador for the NJ Thespians. Amber has been apart of many shows with the Nautical Stars. She’s been seen in productions such as Our Town (Ensemble), Mamma Mia (Ensemble), All in the Timing (Asst. Director), Crazy For You (Sheila), Schoolhouse Rock (Ensemble), How to Eat Like a Child (Ensemble), Academy Showcase 24’ + 25’, Xtreme Theatre 24’ (The Witch/The Mother) and helped out with the productions of Twelfth Night  and Xtreme Theatre 25’ as the soundboard operator and Head of Sound. She is also participating in this year's Thespian All-State Show A Chorus Line as a tech crew member. Outside of the company Amber is involved in National English Honor Society, Student Council, Captains Crew, Politics Club, and a part of the Marching Mariners Colorguard. She is also involved in volunteer work outside of school such as working at the visitors desk at the Community Medical Center Hospital and Antlers Lodge #40 as the treasurer.

LIAM RYAN

Liam is a Junior at HSN, He is an active member of the Theatre Academy, Thespian Troupe #7455, and serves as Thespian Ambassador for this year's New Jersey Thespian Festival. Liam has been in a multitude of performances for the Nautical Stars Theatre Company since freshman year beginning with Our Town (Dr. Gibbs), Mamma Mia (Sky), SchoolHouse Rock (Ensemble), Xtreme Theater: Sleeping Handsome and Buff Beauty (Sleeping Handsome), Twelfth Night (Sebastian), All In the Timing: The Philadelphia (Al), Crazy for You (Pete/Custus), How to Eat Like a Child (Ensemble), and to finish it off Xtreme Theater: The Waffle House (Master Benedict Bates). He also happens to be in this year's Marching Band show, Becoming the Tin Man as the Tin Man. He loves being an active member of the Politics Club.

Theatre academy teacher, nautical stars theatre company director & choreographer

Dr. Michael Penna

Dr. Penna has a BFA in Musical Theater from Syracuse University, MA in Theater from Montclair State University, MPhil in Education from Walden University and a PhD in Education from Walden University. Dr. Penna teaches Theatre in the Arts Academy here at Toms River High School North. Dr. Penna has over 25 years of experience in the Theatrical Arts. Dr. Penna has worked professionally on Broadway, National Tours and Regional Theaters throughout the Country. Dr. Penna is proud member of the Actors Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild. Dr. Penna is a Council Board Member on the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a State Board Member for The New Jersey International Thespian Society and a Board Member for the National English Honor Society. Dr. Penna was the recipient of the 2022 NJ State Teen Arts: Educator of the Year Award, the 2022 Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award: for Outstanding Educator, the 2022 Monmouth Arts: Arts Education Award, the 2022 International Thespian Society: Inspirational Theatre Educator Award, the 2019 Montclair State University Foxy Award for Excellence in Theater Education and the 2018 Basie Award for Best Lighting Design of a Drama.

Musical Director

CHRISTOPHER BURBANK

Mr. Burbank has a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from West Chester University. He is currently one of the band directors at Toms River North, where he also teaches Music Theory, Piano Lab, and History of Rock and Roll.  Mr Burbank was the Pit Conductor for Toms River High School East's Eastside Theater company for the past 15 years; conducting shows including Sweeney Todd, In the Heights, Pippen and most recently, Disney's High School Musical.  In his spare time, Mr. Burbank is a Drill Designer and Choreographer for over 20 High School Marching Bands across the country.   He is very excited to be a part of the Nautical Stars Theatre Company.

Business Manager

Gail McNeill

Ms. McNeill, or more fondly known as Ms. Gail, has been a staple with Nautical Stars since 2015. Even before her appointed position, you could always find Ms. Gail helping out with fundraisers and events. Her own daughter is a Nautical Star alumni (2014-2017) and the connection Ms. Gail has with the student performers is genuine. She's the theatre company's biggest advocate and is a behind the scenes force for their success.

Tech Designer

Zack Bliss

Zack works at Lake Riviera Middle School in Brick, and he has been a lighting designer for over a decade. He is also the Technical Director and Resident Lighting Designer of Toms River's very own Exit 82 Theatre Company. Zack was recently a nominee for Best Lighting Design of A Play or Musical in the 2022 BroadwayWorld New Jersey Awards for his work on RENT.

Production Manager

Kelly Eleneski

Ms. Eleneski is an English as a Second Language teacher at Toms River High School North. She earned her B.A. in English with a minor in Political Science from Washington College and her Juris Doctorate from Roger Williams University School of Law. She has been production manager with the Nautical Stars Theatre Company since 2022 and has worked on six productions with the Company: Matilda, The Lightning Thief, Our Town, Mamma Mia, Twelfth Night, and Crazy for You. Ms. Eleneski was a practicing attorney for eight years before transitioning into teaching so that she could work with students and effect change in her community.

Jenny Neuhoff

Mrs. Neuhoff is a teacher at High School North, whose classes include fashion design, interior design, and technical theatre. She has been on the TRN Theatre Staff since 2022, designing the set for Matilda, The Lightning Thief, Our Town, Mamma Mia, Twelfth Night, and Crazy for You. She also designed costumes for Our Town. Mrs. Neuhoff has been involved in all aspects of theatre from a young age. She holds a degree in Fashion Design and Theatre from Marist College. Mrs. Neuhoff has professional experience designing and constructing costumes and working as a makeup artist.  From 2010-2018 she served as the production designer for the musicals at TRIE.

Joelle Mascaro

Joelle is a Toms River High School North 2022 graduate. Crazy for You was Joelle's eighth production with Nautical Stars, being involved with every musical production while in high school and now serving on the theatre staff. Joelle is honored to be working again with Ms Eleneski and also honored to work with the rest of the staff.

chris strangfeld

Chris is a theatre professional from Barnegat, NJ. He scenic designed and technical directed over 40 main stage shows at Surflight Theatre between 2020-2025. Favorite design credits for Surflight include Something Rotten, Titanic, The Addams Family, Daddy Long Legs, Steel Magnolias, The Spitfire Grill, and Million Dollar Quartet. Other scenic design credits include Next to Normal and Heathers for Comtra Theatre and Jekyll & Hyde for The Strand Theatre. Chris serves as the Director of Education at Algonquin Arts Theatre, performs in musicals and plays, and designs sound, lights, and sets as often as he is able.
